The Senior Experience

Let's plan your perfect high school senior portrait session, together!

Below are 6 steps that will get you moving in the right direction when it comes to the senior portrait experience.

Picking a Location

  • Set the scene, using a location that means something to you, can make your portraits more personal and meaningful.

  • Different settings can add diversity to your overall portrait collection, think - Urban, country, bridges, and park settings.

  • Natural light can be flattering and dramatic.

  • Aim to also include an indoor in-studio session to allow for some additional creative or formal shots.

Styling Your Session

Once you choose your location, make sure your clothes match the setting.

Make a dynamic impression by accessorizing your outfits.

Bring alternative clothing items to play around with at the photoshoot to give your wardrobe a varied look.

Let your outfit choices tell your unique story.

Make a collection of inspiring photos to understand what draws you in.

Don't forget to pay attention to undergarments - make sure that they fit well and that you have the appropriate undergarments for each outfit.

Using Props for Effect

Props are another way to add individuality to your portraits and to share your passion.

  • Add some sassiness with a pair of sunglasses and some fun shoes.

  • Celebrate your achievement by adding a portrait or two with your cap and diploma.

  • Remember the good times by including your instrument or sports equipment.

  • Don't be afraid to experiment with us, in regard to posing you with your props.

Set the Mood

What mood do you want to portray?

  • sophistication

  • edginess

  • sassiness

  • daring

  • joy

Some of the best portraits are achieved by thinking about what mood you'd like to portray and then making decisions for shooting at a specific time of day or adjusting the lighting, by the color of your lipstick, your clothing choices, how you pose, or props and clothing choices. Think about what kind of mood you want to portray during your portrait session.

Consider Your Time

The best senior portrait collections are the ones where the Senior invests enough time with us to set the expectation on what they want and to put the time in to achieve the end result.

Set up a consultation and join us in sharing your vision. Bring your clothing choices and ideas with you.

Take the time to put together your outfits and props before the day of the photoshoot. We even offer to steam your clothing selections if you want to drop them by our home studio, in advance.

Be well rested on the day of your photoshoot.

Set aside enough time for our hair and make-up artist and for the photoshoot.

Make sure that you know your deadlines for the yearbook photo, if portraits need to be turned in for the graduation ceremony or for any additional events. Make sure to leave plenty of time before deadlines when scheduling your senior portrait session.
